The Griffin softball team continued play in the Spring Games on Tuesday afternoon with a single game due to the wet weather overnight and in the morning. SHU met Southern New Hampshire in their only game of the day.
Southern New Hampshire took advantage of the Griffins leaving eight runners on in the first three innings and scored six runs late for a 6-2 win over the Griffins. SHU falls to 8-1 on the season while SNH improves to 3-6 on the year.
The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Morgan Ryan reached on an error, moving to second on the error. She moved to third on a
Brooklyn Fukushima sacrifice bunt.
Natalia Greco reached on a bunt hit and stole second to put runners on second and third.
Mackenzie Zang walked to load the bases and
Jenna Osikowicz drew a walk to force in a run and give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
SHU added a run in the bottom of the third inning.
Nina Grandey drew a walk after one out. Ryan then reached on a bunt with both runners moving up a base to second and third. Fukushima then put down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score Grandey and give SHU a 2-0 lead.
Southern New Hampshire strung together three hits in the top of the sixth inning including a two out, two run homer to take a 3-2 lead over the Griffins.
Southern NH added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to increase their lead to 6-2. The big hit was a bases clearing two out double.
Five different Griffins had a hit in the contest.
SHU will continue their spring trip on Wednesday when they meet Wayne State College and Bemidji State in the Spring Games.
