Seton Hill made their yearly trip to Tampa to take on the #3 Spartans on Monday evening at the UT Baseball Park.
Tampa took a quick 2-0 lead with just one hit in the first and never looked back in a 9-2 win over the Griffins. Tampa improves to 16-2 on the season while the Griffins fall to 6-2 on the season.
The Spartans used a leadoff double then four walks to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins in the bottom of the first inning.
Tampa added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. They used an RBI single and a balk to score their runs. The Spartans added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 6-0.
Seton Hill threatened in the top of the fifth inning when
Vincenzo Rauso drew a leadoff walk and moved to second when
Neal McDermott singled but two strikeouts and a popup ended the inning. Tampa picked up an additional run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
The Griffins cut the Tampa lead to 7-2 in the seventh inning.
Isaiah DiAndreth walked to lead off the inning. Pinch runner
Omar Ward moved to second on a Rauso single. McDermott then singled to drive in Ward and
Drew Garth followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 7-2.
Tampa hit a solo homer in the bottom half of the inning to push their lead back to 8-2. They added another run on a solo homer in the eighth inning.
McDermott led the Griffins with two hits.
SHU will be off on Tuesday before traveling to Florida Southern on Wednesday afternoon.
