Softball Sweeps UPJ to Run Winning Streak to Nine

Seton Hill got their final preparations for PSAC West play with a non conference doubleheader against Pitt Johnstown on Tuesday afternoon.

The Griffins rallied from 4-1 down in the seventh inning with a four run inning for a 5-4 walk off win in game one.  SHU completed the sweep with a 7-2 win in game two to run their winning streak to nine and improve their record to 22-3 on the season.

UPJ used a leadoff walk and two hits to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins in the top of the second inning.

The Mountain Cats added single runs from solo homers in the third and fourth inning to increase their lead to 4-0.

Seton Hill got a run back with a solo homer from Nichole McClendon with two outs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 4-1.

The rally in the seventh began with back to back homers from Brooke Cleland and Grace Paredes that trimmed the deficit to 4-3.  McClendon then tripled to right center field.  Jenna Osikowicz reached on a three base error that allowed McClendon to score and tie the game at four.  Morgan Ryan then singled through the left side of the infield, giving SHU the 5-4 win.

Lauren Dellett went the distance to earn the win.  She struck out four.  Osikowicz paced the SHU offense with three hits.  McClendon and Paredes each added two hits.

SHU took a 1-0 lead in game two in the second inning.  Cleland homered on an 0-2 pitch with one out to give SHU the lead.

The Griffins added three more in the third.  McClendon singled after one out.  She moved to second on a wild pitch and then scored on a Ryan single.  After a Toal single, Cleland doubled to drive in two and make it 4-0.

Seton Hill added three more runs in the fifth.  Ryan led off with a single.  Bre Athey pinch ran for Ryan and moved to second on a Toal single.  Cleland reached on an error to load the bases.  Athey scored when Nina Grandey reached on a fielders choice.  Two hitters later, Paredes doubled in two to make it 7-0.

UPJ got a solo homer with two outs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 7-1.
