After dropping their first two PSAC West contests, the Griffin women's lacrosse team looked to end that streak when they traveled to Erie for a PSAC West matchup with Mercyhurst on Tuesday afternoon.
The Griffins scored the first seven goals of the contest and never looked back in a 13-3 win over the Lakers. SHU improved to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the west while the Lakers dropped to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the west.
The first quarter was all Seton Hill as they outscored the Lakers by a 6-0 margin. The Griffins also held a 13-5 advantage in shots in the quarter.
Skylar Orlowski got the Griffins on the board just 1:38 into the contest and they were off and rolling from there.
Jaclyn Frank then scored the next three goals for the Griffins as they built a 4-0 lead less than six minutes into the contest. Just over thirty seconds after Frank's third goal,
Ella Wroblewski made it 5-0.
Alaina TeSelle scored with 3:27 to play in the quarter as SHU carried a 6-0 lead into the second period.
The teams traded goals back and forth in the second quarter with the Griffins scoring the first, third and fifth goals of the quarter. Orlowski opened the scoring just 1:31 into the second period. Mercyhurst scored their first goal of the game at the 4:59 mark of the quarter. Just 46 seconds later, Frank scored her fourth of the game to put SHU in front 8-1. Orlowski scored with eleven seconds left in the half to give SHU a 9-2 halftime advantage.
TeSelle scored the lone goal of the third period as SHU carried a 10-2 lead into the fourth quarter.
Orlowski opened the scoring for the third time in a quarter as she scored the first goal of the fourth quarter.
Piper Conlan and
Megan Bunker scored the final two goals for the Griffins.
Frank led SHU with six points on four goals and two assists. Orlowski added four goals. TeSelle finished with two goals and two assists. Bunker added a goal and an assist.
Kamille Ward recorded eight saves to earn the win.
Sarah Mazzur led the Griffins with four caused turnovers.
The Griffins will travel to Gannon on Sunday afternoon for another PSAC West contest.
