Seton Hill hosted a round robin on Friday afternoon as they played a split doubleheader against Mercyhurst and Malone.
Mercyhurst scored six times in the third inning in route to a 9-6 win over the Griffins in game one. The Griffins then used the arms and bats of a former Hempfield HS duo for a 1-0 win over Malone in game two. SHU is now 14-3 on the season.
The Griffins jumped on Mercyhurst early in their first contest of the day. With one out,
Jenna Osikowicz was hit by a pitch and
Morgan Ryan then launched the first pitch she saw over the left field wall to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.
The Lakers then scored six unearned runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-2 lead over the Griffins. Mercyhurst then added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 9-2.
SHU scored four times in the seventh inning but it was not enough.
Brooke Cleland drove in the first run with a double.
Brooklyn Fukushima followed with an RBI single.
Grace Paredes added a two run double to end the SHU scoring.
Natalia Greco led SHU with three hits. Cleland, Fukushima and Paredes each added two hits.
Osikowicz gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead over Malone when she hit a solo homer on an 0-0 pitch with two outs in the top of the third.
That was all Griffin starter Ryan would need as she went the distance with a complete game two hit shutout. She struck out 10 in the contest to win her fourth of the season. Morgan also led the Griffins at the plate with two hits. Cleland added a double in the win.
SHU will host Malone on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader.
