Seton Hill began PSAC West play with a home matchup with Indiana (PA) on Thursday afternoon in Greensburg.
The Griffins led 14-8 heading to the fourth quarter but IUP scored six fourth quarter goals and then scored the game winner 1:04 into overtime to stun the Griffins with a 15-14 overtime win. SHU falls to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC West while IUP improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC West. The loss ends an 11 game PSAC West winning streak for the Griffins and an eight game home field winning streak.
IUP took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins with a goal less than a minute into the contest. SHU responded with two goals in less than a minute to take a 2-1 lead.
Megan Bunker scored with 12:56 to go in the quarter and
Hannah Thompson scored with 11:57 left to give SHU a lead. IUP answered back with two goals to retake the lead at 3-2 with 4:37 to play. The Griffins then scored the final three goals of the quarter to take a 5-3 lead.
Alaina TeSelle and
Jaclyn Frank scored on feeds from Bunker and
Skylar Orlowski scored with 49 seconds to play as SHU took a two goal lead into the second period.
Orlowski opened the second quarter scoring with a goal with 13:49 left in the half. IUP then scored three straight to tie the score at six with 9:26 to play. The last two IUP goals were on free position shots. TeSelle and Thompson scored thirty seconds apart late in the second quarter to put SHU in front 8-6 heading to the halftime break.
Seton Hill controlled play in the third quarter and had a 6-2 advantage in goals in the quarter. The Griffins scored four times in the first six minutes of the quarter to build a 12-6 lead. Bunker, Orlowski, Thompson and
Piper Conlan scored for the Griffins in the 4-0 run. IUP then scored twice within 50 seconds to cut the SHU lead to 12-8 with 6:49 to play. Just 23 seconds later, Orlowski scored to put the Griffins in front 13-8.
Carleigh Sutfin scored on a free position shot with 3:49 to play in the quarter as SHU led 14-8 heading to the fourth quarter.
The Crimson Hawks scored three times in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to trim the Griffins lead in half. IUP then cut the lead to two at 14-12 with a goal with 6:48 left. The lead was cut to one with a goal 3:14 to play. SHU then forced an IUP turnover with just less than 1:30 to play but the Crimson Hawks made a save and that led to the game tying goal with 31 seconds to play.
IUP then won the opening draw of overtime and were able to score the game winner just 1:04 into the overtime period.
Orlowski led the Griffins with four goals and an assist. Thompson finished with three goals. Bunker scored twice and added two assists along with pulling down 18 draw controls. TeSelle also scored twice. Sutfin and Frank added a goal and two assists while Conlan added a goal and an assist.
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Saturday when they travel to Slippery Rock.
