After delaying their top 20 matchup with Mount Olive until Monday because of the weekend snow, the Griffins hosted the #20 Trojans on Monday morning in a non conference matchup.
The Griffins used a four goal run over the end of the third quarter into the fourth quarter to defeat the Trojans by a 10-9 score. SHU improves to 4-3 on the season while Mount Olive falls to 3-4 on the season. Â
Mount Olive opened the scoring just 1:28 into the contest. The Griffins then responded with three straight goals.Â
McGarity Harper scored a man-up goal to tie the game at one.Â
Layne Harich then scored back to back goals to give SHU a 3-1 lead with 3:34 to play. The Trojans cut the lead to 3-2 before
Zack Estabrooks scored with 42 seconds to play in the quarter to give SHU a 4-2 lead. Â
Harper's second gave the Griffins a 5-2 lead with 9:22 to play in the half. Mount Olive scored the final three goals of the quarter including the final one with 17 seconds to go in the half to tie the score at five. Â
David St Clair gave SHU the lead back with a goal at the 12:12 mark of the third quarter. The Trojans scored goals just a little over two minutes apart to retake the lead 7-6 with 7:41 left in the third quarter. Harich's third of the game with 1:16 left in the quarter tied the score at seven. Â
SHU scored three goals in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter to build a 10-7 advantage. Harper,
Andy Davis and St Clair scored for the Griffins during the 3-0 run. The Trojans cut the lead to 10-8 with a goal with 8:02 to play and then trimmed the lead to one with 2:18 to play. SHU was able to win the faceoff and never gave the ball back to the Trojans.
Harper led the Griffins with three goals and an assist. Harich also scored three times. St Clair scored twice and added an assist.Â
Logan Gray won 19 of 23 faceoffs.Â
Josh Miller made six saves to earn the win.
SHU will host #6 Mercy on Sunday afternoon in a non conference matchup.
