Game Recap: Baseball |

Griffins Sweep Doubleheader from Walsh

Seton Hill opened the home portion of their schedule with a doubleheader with Walsh on Sunday afternoon.

The Griffins used a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 win in game one.  SHU completed the sweep with a 5-2 win in game two.  SHU is now 4-1 on the season.

Walsh opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a two run, two out single to center field to give the Cavaliers a 2-0 lead.

Seton Hill got those two runs back in the second inning.  After an out, Owen Sabol drew a walk.  He scored when Drew Garth launched the first pitch he saw over the left field wall to tie the score at two.

The Griffins threatened to take the lead in the fourth inning.  Jack Oberdorf and Isaiah DiAndreth both singled to lead off the inning but two strikeouts and a ground out stranded both runners.

SHU then got a walk off hit in the seventh to win the game.  Tanner Froehlich doubled with one out.  Jayden Starks pinch ran for him at second and scored the game winning run on Brandon Kline's single on a 3-2 pitch.

Nash Bryan earned the win with a perfect seventh inning.  He struck out two in the win.

Sabol put the Griffins in front in game two with a solo homer to left field to lead off the bottom of the second inning.

The duo of Aidan Layton and Andino Vecchiolla did not allow a hit through the first four innings of the contest.  That changed in the top of the fifth when the Cavaliers scored two times on three hits to take a 2-1 lead.

Seton Hill then scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Braden Durham singled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a steal and error.  After a ground out, he scored on an Oberdorf double down the right field line.  DiAndreth then singled to put runners on first and third.  Sabol was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Neal McDermott then lined a double down the left field line to clear the bases and give SHU a 5-2 lead.

Caiden Wood earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings. He struck out 4. Nash Bryan struck out two to earn the save.  Sabol and DiAndreth each had two hits each.

The Griffins will return to action next weekend when they begin their spring trip on Saturday afternoon in Davenport, Florida.
