The Seton Hill softball team opened their 2022 season with a matchup with Salem in the Glenville State Tournament on Saturday evening.
SHU pounded out 18 hits in an 11-3, 6 inning run rule contest, as the Griffins began the season with a 1-0 record.
The Griffins got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. After an out,
Jenna Osikowicz tripled and scored on a
Lauren Dellett single. Salem tied the game at one in the top of the second inning.
Seton Hill retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning with four runs.
Nina Grandey opened the inning with a single. A
Brooklyn Fukushima double put runners on second and third with no one out.
Natalia Greco then doubled to drive in both Grandey and Fukushima.
Grace Paredes singled to put runners at the corners. Greco scored when
Nichole McClendon reached on a fielders choice and later Osikowicz drove in McClendon with a single to make it 5-1.
The Tigers got two back in the top of the third to trim the SHU lead to 5-3. SHU then broke the game open with five more in the fifth inning. Dellett doubled to lead off the inning. Pinch runner
Alexis Bonatch then scored on a moonshot from
Morgan Toal. Grandey and Fukushima had back to back doubles and Greco made it 10-3 with a two run bomb.
The Griffins ended the game in the sixth. Osikowicz singled and moved to third on a Dellett double. Toal then ended the game with a single scoring Osikowicz.
Dellett earned the win in the circle with a complete game. She struck out five. Lauren was also 4-4 at the plate with two doubles. Greco was 3-4 with a double, triple and homer and four RBI. Osikowicz also added three hits. Toal had two hits including a homer and drove in three. Fukushima and Grandey each added two hits.
SHU will continue play in the Glenville Tourney on Sunday when they take on Lock Haven and WV State.
