Big Third Quarter Carries Griffins to PSAC Crossover Win

The Griffins returned home from a trip last week to Puerto Rico and hosted East Stroudsburg in a PSAC Crossover on Sunday afternoon.

Seton Hill scored 28 points in the third quarter as they were able to pull away from the Warriors for a 69-54 win.  It's the fifth straight win for the Griffins.  SHU is now 9-3 overall and 2-1 in PSAC play.  ESU drops to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in PSAC action.

SHU came out of the gates fast as they took a quick 6-0 lead on baskets from Corinne Eisner and Hallie Cowan and two Hallie free throws.  The Griffins continued the run as they scored the next six points on three layups from Hallie and Helene Cowan and Courtney Tomas.  SHU led 12-0 less than four minutes into the quarter.  ESU trimmed the lead to 14-11 before a three pointer from Hallie Cowan gave SHU a 17-11 lead after one quarter.

A three pointer from Alie Seto along with three point plays from Seto and Christiane Frye extended the SHU lead to 27-15 midway through the second quarter.  The Warriors then closed the half on a 7-1 run as the Griffins held a 28-22 lead at the halftime break.

Over the first four minutes of the second half, the Warriors outscored the Griffins 7-5 as they cut the SHU lead to four.  The Griffins responded with a 15-0 run over a less than four minute span as they built their lead to 48-29.  Sakeria Haralson and Tomas each had four points in the run.  Abby Mankins scored the final four points of the quarter for SHU as they took a 56-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

Back to back layups from Seto and Tomas extended the SHU lead to 22 points at the start of the fourth quarter.  East Stroudsburg would get no closer than 13 points in the quarter as SHU won their fifth straight.

SHU shot 43% from the floor as they held the Warriors to just 33% from the floor.  The Griffins were able to force 19 Warrior turnovers.  SHU scored 23 points off those 19 turnovers.

Hallie Cowan led SHU with 16 points. Helene Cowan and Seto each scored 11 points.  Tomas also reached double figures with 10 points.

The Griffins will host Kutztown on Monday afternoon in another PSAC Crossover.
