The Griffin women's basketball team continued play in Puerto Rico at the Porta Del Sol Shootout with a matchup with the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon on Monday afternoon.
Seton Hill was able to improve to 2-0 on the trip with a 74-63 victory. SHU is now 7-3 on the season.
Bayamon took an early 6-2 lead less than three minutes into the contest. Back to back three pointers from the Cowan sisters and a basket from Hallie put the Griffins in front 10-6 three minutes later.
Hallie Cowan's three pointer put the Griffins in front 15-12 with 2:40 to play in the quarter.
Corinne Eisner and
Hallie Cowan hit baskets down the stretch as SHU took a 19-16 lead into the second quarter.
Courtney Tomas hit two free throws to open the second quarter as the Griffins built their lead to 21-16. A basket from Eisner and two free throws from
Alie Seto put the Griffins ahead by four midway through the quarter. Back to back three pointers from
Maddy Moore and Tomas pushed the SHU lead to 33-26 with 2:49 left in the half. Bayamon got back to within two before two free throws from Seto gave SHU a 35-31 halftime lead.
Seton Hill opened the second half on a 10-2 run as they took a 45-33 lead less than three minutes into the half. Seto had half of the Griffin points during the run. Bayamon was able to cut the lead to five in the quarter but the Griffins took an eight point lead into the fourth quarter at 59-51.
Helene Cowan and
Emma Fischer each hit three pointers in the early going of the fourth quarter as SHU was leading by ten just over two minutes into the quarter. Bayamon cut the Griffins lead to six at 67-61 with 3:43 to play but SHU scored the final seven points of the contest to close out the win.
Seto led four Griffins in double figures with 16 points. She also added eight rebounds and five steals.
Hallie Cowan added 13 points. Tomas finished with 12 points.
Helene Cowan added 10 points and six assists.
SHU will close out their trip with a matchup with Inter American University on Tuesday.
