Seton Hill played their final tune-up for PSAC play as they made the trip to Frostburg, Maryland for a non conference matchup with the Bobcats on Sunday afternoon.
The Griffins opened the second half with a 12-0 run and never looked back with a 61-47 victory over the Bobcats. SHU is now 4-2 on the season.
Both teams got off to slow starts after the short Thanksgiving break as the teams both scored just 26 points in the first half.
Frostburg State scored the first five points of the contest as they took a 5-0 lead with six minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Emma Fischer and
Courtney Tomas then hit back to back three pointers as the Griffins took a 6-5 lead.
Late in the quarter,
Helene Cowan hit a basket to give SHU a 10-8 lead but a three pointer from Frostburg put the Bobcats in front 11-10 heading to the second quarter.
Fischer hit two free throws early in the second quarter and
Maddy Moore followed with a three pointer as SHU built a 15-11 lead just over two minutes into the quarter. Tomas three pointer extended the Griffins lead to 20-13 with 6:30 left in the half. Tomas scored four more points down the stretch but the Bobcats outscored the Griffins 13-6 as they tied the score at 26 at the halftime break.
The Griffins came out of the gates flying in the second half as they scored the first ten points to take a 36-26 lead less than three minutes into the half. Tomas scored five of the points with
Hallie Cowan hitting a three and
Helene Cowan adding a layup during the run.
Hallie Cowan added two more free throws before the Bobcats hit a three as SHU opened the half on a 12-0 run.
Seton Hill was able to hold their lead throughout the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter leading 46-38.
Helene Cowan answered a Bobcat basket with a three pointer early in the fourth quarter to push the lead back to nine. Two straight baskets from
Alie Seto extended the SHU lead to 53-42 with 7:11 to play. Frostburg would get no closer than eight points as the Griffins won their third straight.
Tomas led the Griffins with 17 points.
Helene Cowan also reached double figures with 13. Seto just missed double figures with nine points. Moore added eight points while
Sakeria Haralson had a game high 12 rebounds.
Seton Hill will begin PSAC play next weekend as they travel to Lock Haven and Mansfield.
