Women's Basketball Picks Up Non Conference Road Win

Seton Hill continued their long road trip with a non conference matchup against Goldey Beacom on Saturday afternoon in Wilmington, Delaware.

Ten Griffins scored as Seton Hill used a balanced attack in a 72-60 win over the Lightning.  The Griffins improve to 2-2 on the season while the Lightning drop to 1-3.

SHU took a quick 5-0 lead on a three pointer from Hallie Cowan and a basket from Christiane Frye just over a minute into the contest.  Five straight points from Alie Seto gave the Griffins a 10-4 lead midway through the quarter.  After the Lightning cut the lead to two points, the Griffins answered back with six straight points in less than a minute to build their lead back to 20-12.  Helene Cowan scored the final four points of the quarter as the Griffins led 24-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The teams exchanged baskets over the first six minutes of the second quarter with the lead moving between seven and nine points for the Griffins.  Courtney Tomas scored the final basket of the half as SHU led 36-28 at the half.

Over the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Lightning outscored the Griffins 14-6 as they tied the score at 42.  The Griffins responded with eleven straight over the next three minutes to take the 53-42 lead.  Helene Cowan opened the run with a three point play.  Tomas and Abby Mankins each hit three pointers to end the run.  SHU led 54-43 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lightning would get no closer than nine points in the final quarter as the Griffins were able to extend their lead to as many as 16 points in the quarter.

Helene Cowan was nearly perfect from the floor as she led the Griffins with 16 points.  She was 5-6 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line.  Frye also reached double figures with 14 points.  Mankins just missed double figures with nine points.  Tomas, Seto and Hallie Cowan each scored seven points.

The Griffins will make the short trip to Pitt Greensburg on Tuesday evening for a non conference matchup.
