The Seton Hill women's basketball team hit the road for the first time this season as they traveled to Canton, OH for a non conference matchup with Malone on Wednesday evening.
Malone outscored the Griffins 27-18 in the fourth quarter as they rallied for a 70-66 victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 1-2 on the season while the Pioneers improve to 2-1.
Seton Hill took a 1-0 lead before the game started as Malone was accessed a technical before the game started and
Christiane Frye hit the free throw to put the Griffins in front. Malone led for the next six minutes before
Joi Burleigh hit a shot to put the Griffins back in front 11-10 with four minutes to play in the quarter. Burleigh followed that with a three point play to extend the lead to four points.
Hallie Cowan hit a three pointer at the end of the quarter to give SHU a 17-15 lead.
In the second quarter, the teams exchanged leads throughout the quarter. Late in the quarter,
Teresa Haigh hit a three pointer to give SHU a 37-32 lead at the halftime break.
Back to back baskets from Burleigh and Frye midway through the third quarter put the Griffins in front 44-38.
Abby Mankins and
Sakeria Haralson scored back to back baskets late in the quarter and the Griffins took a five point lead into the fourth quarter at 48-43.
Just over a minute into the fourth quarter,
Hallie Cowan drained a three pointer to put the Griffins in front 51-45. A three pointer from
Alie Seto and two free throws from
Courtney Tomas gave SHU seven point leads midway through the fourth. Malone then went on a 14-3 run as they took a 63-60 lead with 1:56 to play. Seto answered with a three to tie the score at 63. After a three point play from the Pioneers, Frye again tied the score at 66 with a three pointer with 1:02 to play. Malone hit a jumper, got a stop and then hit two free throws to ice the game.
Frye led SHU with 14 points. Seto finished with 12 points and
Hallie Cowan tossed in 11 points.
SHU returns to action on the road on Saturday at Goldey Beacom.
