Griffins Trip to Edinboro Ends in 2-2 Tie

After falling behind early against Edinboro, Seton Hill rallied to take a lead at halftime. But the Scots scored early in the second half and the teams would finish in a 2-2 tie, the second draw between the teams this season.

Edinboro would strike first, as a goal just 4:30 into the match put the home team in front 1-0. Shots were at a premium through the first part of the opening half, but Seton Hill started to create chance after that. After one SHU shot was stopped and another went high, the Griffins found the equalizer.  A pass from Leah Policarpio set up Madison Carr, who scored her sixth goal of the season and the match was even at 1-1 in the 29th minute.

Less than 10 minutes later, Seton Hill grabbed the lead. After setting up the first goal, Policarpio would notch the next score, as she finished off an assist from Victoria Rothrauff with less than seven minutes left in the half. The Griffins would carry that 2-1 lead into halftime behind a solid defensive effort, as they held the Scots to just three shots in the first half.

Seton Hill had the first shot after halftime, but then Edinboro started generating scoring opportunities. The Scots almost had the tying goal in the 51st minute but a shot was cleared off the line by a SHU defender and another shot was saved by Grace Kenyon. In the 58th minute, Seton Hill nearly scored, but the Scots managed to clear it. On the counter attack, Edinboro's rush led to the tying goal and the match was even at 2-2 with 30 minutes to play.

Shots on goal were hard to generate down the stretch for either side. Kenyon made her final save of the match with 12 minutes left. Rothrauff had a shot stopped in the 82nd minute and another blocked with four minutes left. The Scots made a push late for the game-winner, as a SHU foul led to an Edinboro free kick with 17 seconds left. But the attempt sailed high and time expired, leaving the teams in a 2-2 draw. The result matches the first meeting between the teams that ended in a 0-0 tie Sept. 10.

Seton Hill finished the night with a 13-11 margin in shots and Kenyon matched the Edinboro keeper with four saves. Policarpio had one goal and one assist in the match, while Carr scored one goal and Rothrauff posted one assist.

The Griffins are now off for a week and will return to the field next Saturday with a 2:30 pm home match against Gannon
