Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Griffins Beat Rock for 3rd Win in a Row

In a match-up to see who would remain in the top half of the PSAC West, Seton Hill scored twice in the first 16 minutes, which propelled the Griffins to a 3-1 victory at Slippery Rock Saturday for their third consecutive win.

It took little time for the Griffins (5-7-1, 3-1-1) to take the lead in the match. In the eighth minute, Moritz Stuehn scored his first goal of the season to lift SHU to a 1-0 lead. Seton Hill kept the pressure on through the early stages. Their first four shots of the day were on goal and the fourth one found the back of the net to double the lead to 2-0. This time it was Fletcher Amos finishing off an assist from Anton Dupont Linden for Amos' sixth tally of the season.

The Griffins weren't done in the half. In the 32nd minute, Dupont Linden set up his second score, this time with a pass to Yuriy Krischiv, who picked his first goal of the season to extend the SHU advantage to 3-0. That would be the margin at halftime, thanks to three saves by keeper Bobby White, including a pair in the final two and a half minutes.

Seton Hill nearly tacked another onto their lead early in the second half, but a Dupont Linden shot was cleared by a defender to deny a fourth goal for the Griffins. Slippery Rock managed to get a score in the 71st minute to trim the deficit to 3-1 and pressed for more. Just after the Rock goal, the hosts fired off four shots in a three-minute span, but White stopped three and the other was blocked.

Those would be the last major chances for the Rock. They managed just one shot in the final 15 minutes, as Seton Hill went on to the win to give them 10 points in the conference standings to draw even with Gannon for second place in the league.

Slippery Rock finished the day with a 14-13 advantage in shots, but White made five saves to protect his team's lead. Amos and Stuehn both had one goal on three shots in the match, while Kryshiv added the third goal and Linden recorded a pair of assists.

The Griffins will look to make it four wins in a row on Wednesday when they travel to Pitt-Johnstown for a 4 pm kickoff. Seton Hill will be trying for a season sweep of the series after defeating the Mountain Cats 6-0 back on Oct. 1.
