Griffins Drop PSAC Crossover Matchup at Ship

Seton Hill returned to action after the Christmas and New Year's break with a PSAC Crossover matchup at Shippensburg on Wednesday evening.

The Griffins kept the contest close in the first half but Shippensburg was able to pull away in the second half for an 86-72 win.

Sean Dillon opened the scoring for the Griffins by draining the first of his five three pointers.  Ship answered with a 7-0 run to take a 7-3 lead, a lead the Raiders would not give up the rest of the contest.  Another Dillon three pointer cut the Ship lead to 13-10 with 13:52 to play in the half.

Shippensburg extended their lead to nine points before baskets from Samuel Tabe and a three from Jimmy Moon trimmed the lead to 23-17 just over half way through the half.  The Raiders extended their lead to 13 before a quick 6-0 run from the Griffins got them back to within seven at 33-26.  Back to back baskets from Dillon and Michael Joiner cut the lead to 34-30 with 4:16 to play.  A Joiner dunk and another three from Dillon got the Griffins to within two at 37-35 with a minute to play but Ship hit a three pointer to take a 40-35 halftime lead.

After a Raider three pointer to open the second half, Aaron Celcis made a layup and Dillon followed with another three pointer to cut the lead to 43-40 with 17:22 to play.  Dillon answered a Ship free throw and SHU trailed 44-41 with 15:13 to play.  The Raiders then went on a 14-0 run as they took a 58-41 lead with just over eleven minutes to play in the half.

The Griffins fought back late, using a 9-1 run to cut the lead to 80-70 with 1:53 to play.

Dillon led the Griffins with a career high 27 points on 5-8 shooting from three point land.  Tabe finished with 12 points with Joiner and Moon each adding 10 points.

SHU is scheduled to open PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon against Mercyhurst.
