After suffering their first loss in eleven games, the Griffins returned to the court on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Clarion in a PSAC West contest.
The Griffins jumped back into the win column as four players reached double figures in a 74-46 win over the Golden Eagles. SHU is now 17-5 overall and 11-2 in the PSAC while Clarion drops to 3-16 overall and 2-12 in the PSAC.
Two baskets from
Katie Nolan, a three pointer from
Samantha Kosmacki and a basket from
Sonia Sarda gave SHU an early 9-2 lead in the contest. Another Kosmacki jumper extended the lead to 11-2 midway thru the quarter. After a Kosmacki layin at the 4:10 mark, Clarion went on an 8-0 run to tie the score at 13. Nolan gave SHU a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter with a layin in the final minute. Â
Back to back buckets from
Courtney Tomas and
Christiane Frye pushed the SHU lead to 19-13 a minute into the second quarter. Six straight from the Golden Eagles was answered by eight straight from the Griffins as they led 27-19 midway into the second quarter. Kosmacki scored five of the eight points. Back to back layups from
Cheyenne Trest and Frye closed the half, giving SHU a 33-23 lead at the halftime break.
Nolan opened the second half with two consecutive baskets to extend the SHU lead to fourteen points. A three pointer from Kosmacki and a three point play from Frye gave SHU a 46-28 lead half way through the period. Frye's three pointer gave SHU their biggest lead of the quarter at 21 points and SHU carried a 53-34 lead into the fourth quarter. Â
Seton Hill opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run on a basket from Nolan, a three pointer from
Teresa Haigh and a jumper from Trest. A three pointer from
Kelly Weeks extended the lead to 65-37 with 5:39 to play. Â
The Griffins held Clarion to just 28% shooting from the floor. They also forced 16 turnovers and held a 46-27 advantage in rebounds.
Kosmacki led the four Griffins in double figures with a game high 15 points. Nolan posted another double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Frye also scored 12 points in the win. Trest also reached double figures with 11. Weeks just missed double figures with nine points. Â
The Griffins will travel to Shippensburg on Monday evening for a make up PSAC Crossover. Tip is set for 7 PM.
