Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second Half Rally Comes Up Just Short at Ship

Seton Hill made the trip across the turnpike to Shippensburg for a make up PSAC Crossover matchup on Monday evening.

The Griffins trailed by as many as 19 and were able to cut the lead to three but just could not get any closer in a 69-65 loss at Ship.  SHU falls to 17-6 overall and 11-3 in the PSAC while Ship improves to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in PSAC play.

Rena Enterline scored the first two baskets of the game for the Griffins as they trailed 6-4 just under four minutes into the contest.  Ship pushed their lead to seven before Madelyn Fischer hit a three pointer to cut the lead to 12-8 with 3:55 to play.  The Raiders then closed the quarter on a 9-3 run as they took a 21-11 lead into the second quarter.

Two free throws from Christiane Frye and a basket from Katie Nolan trimmed the lead to 23-18 with 5:49 left in the half.  The Raiders then went on an 18-5 run to end the quarter and took a 41-23 lead into the locker room at the half.

Ship built their lead to 19 at 50-31 with 6:35 left in the third quarter.  A basket from Nolan, followed by a three pointer from Enterline and a three point play from Sarda cut the Ship lead to 50-39 with 5:09 left.  Samantha Kosmacki hit a late three pointer and Cheyenne Trest made a jumper as SHU cut the lead to ten at the end of the third quarter, 58-48.

Back to back three pointers from Frye and Kosmacki cut the lead to six, 60-54, with 7:45 to play in regulation.  Ship built their lead back to ten before Sarda hit a three to make it 66-59 midway through the quarter.  Ship answered with a basket but that would be their last made field goal at the 4:37 mark.  Frye connected at the 3:10 mark and Nolan added a basket with 1:55 to play to trim the lead to 68-63.  Frye then hit a jumper with 37 seconds to play to cut the lead to 68-65 but the Griffins did not foul and allowed Ship to get an offensive rebound, running down the clock to three seconds before the Griffins were able to send Ship to the free throw line.  Ship hit one of two to close out the contest.

Nolan posted another double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.  Sarda finished with 12 points and both Enterline and Frye scored 11.

SHU will remain on the road when they travel to Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening for another PSAC West contest.
