Seton Hill hosted Clarion in PSAC West action on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center.
Sophomore
Ryan Meis's jumper with 2.9 seconds remaining gave the Griffins a 93-92 overtime win over the Golden Eagles. With the win, the Griffins tie Clarion for three wins in PSAC play. Â
The first six minutes of the contests were very tightly played as the teams exchanged leads with no lead bigger than four points. Back tp back baskets from
Sean Dillon and
Samuel Tabe gave SHU a 17-13 lead with 13:29 to play in the half. Meis pushed the SHU lead to six points at the midpoint of the half. Â
Clarion then used a 6-0 run to take a 29-28 lead with 4:25 to play in the half. That lead was quickly erased by a
Jimmy Moon three pointer. Moon followed with another three pointer to push the lead to 34-29. Dillon's three pointer gave SHU a 40-35 lead at the halftime break. Â
The Golden Eagles got back to within one point four minutes into the second half but a three point play from Tabe and a three pointer from
Marrek Paola pushed the lead back to five points at 53-48 with fourteen minutes remaining. That lead grew to seven points on a Meis layup. After Clarion tied the score at 57, Moon drilled a three and Tabe followed with a layup to give SHU a 62-57 lead. Â
Meis hit another three pointer to extend the lead to 69-62 with 8:13 to go. Clarion responded with a 12-2 run to take a 74-71 lead with four minutes to play. A three point play from
Drew Green was answered with a Clarion three pointer. Clarion pushed their lead to 79-74 with 1:25 left. Green cut the lead to 79-76 with a jumper. After a Clarion miss, Moon tied the score at 79 with a three pointer with 23 seconds to play. SHU got a defensive stop to send the game to overtime, tied at 79. Â
Tabe opened the scoring in overtime but Clarion then scored the next five to take an 84-81 lead. Dillon trimmed the lead to one and after a Clarion basket, Meis drilled a three to tie the score at 86 with 2:50 to play. Another Meis three gave SHU a 89-87 advantage. After a Clarion basket, Moon went 2-2 from the line to give SHU a 91-89 lead with 1:17 to go. Clarion hit a three on their next possession to take a 92-91 lead. Both teams missed on their next possession with Tabel pulling down a defensive rebound to give SHU the ball back with 24 seconds to play. SHU then called a timeout with 12 seconds to play to set up the game winner. Meis took a handoff from Moon and curled to the free throw line where he calmly sank the jumper with 2.9 seconds to play, putting the Griffins in front 93-92. Clarion then missed a last second shot and SHU earned the win. Â
The game featured six scorers who finished with 20 or more points. Both teams had three players reach the 20 point plateau. Â
Moon led the Griffins with 25 points. He posted a double double with 12 rebounds. Meis ended the game with 22 points, including the game winner. Tabe also reached the 20 point plateau, finishing with 20. Dillon posted a double double with 11 points and 12 assists. Â
