Tabe Nets Career High in Overtime Loss at Clarion

Seton Hill made the trip to Clarion for a make up PSAC West contest on Monday evening.

For the second straight game, Seton Hill and Clarion went to overtime, but this time it was the Golden Eagles coming out on top with an 83-77 victory over the Griffins.

The early portion of the contest was full of ties as the teams were tied at 2, 4, 6 and 8 in the first four minutes of the contest.  Over the next four and a half minutes, the Golden Eagles went on a 12-2 run to take a 20-10 lead with 12:24 left in the half.  Baskets from Samuel Tabe and Sean Dillon and two Ryan Meis free throws cut the Eagles lead to 22-19 with 8:34 to play.

Clarion pushed their lead back to nine at 33-24 with 3:22 left in the half.  Two baskets from Tabe and a three from Jaylen Stewart cut the lead back to two at 33-31 with 2:38 left.  Clarion then ended the half on a 10-2 run as they took a 43-34 lead into the halftime break.

Just over four minutes into the second half the Eagles led 49-39.  SHU then went on a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 51-49 lead.  Tabe and Sean Dillon each had four points during the run.  Meis ended the run with a three pointer.

Neither team was able to pull away over the next five minutes and the game was tied at 61 with 7:51 to play.  Back to back baskets from Tabe and one from Stewart gave SHU a 67-61 lead with six minutes left.  SHU extended their lead to seven, 71-64, on a Stewart jumper with 4:42 left.  The Griffins were only able to hit one free throw the rest of the way with Clarion coming back to tie the game at 72, sending the contest to overtime.

Tabe answered two Clarion free throws to open the overtime period.  After a defensive stop, Drew Green hit one of two free throws to give SHU a 75-74 advantage with four minutes left in regulation.  Clarion answered with a 6-0 run as they led 80-75 with two minutes to play.  Dillon hit two free throws to cut the lead to 80-77 with 1:37 to go.  Clarion hit three free throws down the stretch to close out the win.

Tabe scored a career high 36 points in the loss.  He also added six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.  Dillon finished with 12 points.  Meis also reached double figures with ten points.  Stewart just missed double figures with nine points.

SHU will continue PSAC West play on Wednesday evening when they travel to Mercyhurst.
