The Griffins returned home to host Edinboro in PSAC West action on Monday evening in the McKenna Center.
Seton Hill used a strong second half and a career high from
Samuel Tabe to defeat the Fighting Scots by the score of 84-76. SHU outscored the Scots 49-36 in the second half and Tabe scored 27 of his career high 32 in the second half. Â
Edinboro jumped out to a 9-4 lead at the first media timeout. SHU responded with a 9-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 13-12 lead at the second media timeout.Â
Sean Dillon had five points during the run and
Jimmy Moon added the other four. The Scots built their lead back to five but back to back buckets from Dillon cut the lead to 22-21 with 7:53 remaining in the half. Â
The Scots pushed their lead to as many as six but a three point play from
Samuel Tabe and a layup from Moon trimmed the lead to back to one at 33-32 with 3:24 to play in the half. Edinboro extended their lead back to eight before
Drew Green scored the final three points of the half, cutting the halftime deficit to just five at 40-35. Â
Four straight points from Moon and two more from Dillon cut the lead back to one, 42-41 just under four minutes into the half. The Scots pushed the lead back to five but
Ryan Meis hit a three to cut the advantage back to two. Â
Edinboro extended their lead back to eight points with 8:33 to play but thats where the Grififns and Tabe began to take over. Tabe scored the next seven for the Griffins and when Dillon hit two free thows, SHU trailed just 63-61 with 4;33 to play. Tabe then scored six straight for the Griffins to tie the game at 67 with 3:07 left. Moon's put back answered a Scot basket and tied the score at 69. Â
Tabe finished another layup and Dillon drained a three from the corner to give the Griffins a 74-70 lead with just over a minute remaining. Edinboro missed two free throws and Tabe went 2-2 from the line as SHU extended the lead to 76-70 with 58 seconds to play. Dillon got a steal on the next possession and was fouled, hitting both free throws to extend the lead to eight. The Griffins then closed out the game hitting all six of their free throws, two from Tabe and four from Dillon.
Tabe led the Griffins with his first double double of the season. He scored the career high 32 points and added 10 rebounds. Dillon added 22 points including a perfect 12-12 from the line. He also added seven rebounds and five assists. Moon also reached double figures with 14 points. He added eight rebounds.Â
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Wednesday evening when they travel to CalU. Â
