Seton Hill wrestled at home for the first time in nearly two years as they hosted Mercyhurst in a PSAC Dual on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center.
SHU opened the match by winning four of the first five matches but the Lakers won four of the final five bouts in route to a 26-21 win over the Griffins. SHU is now 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC while the Lakers improve to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC.
Frank Bonura got the Griffins off to a great start with a win by pinfall just 1:30 into the 125 pound match to give the Griffins an early 6-0 lead. The Lakers answered with a win by fall in the 133 pound match to even the dual at six.
Joel Cawoski started a run of three straight decision wins for the Griffins. Cawoski won by a 6-3 score at 141 pounds to give SHU a 9-6 lead.
Logan McKoy followed with a 6-3 win at 149 pounds to put the Griffins in front 12-6.
Tyler Alberts then picked up an 8-5 decision at 157 pounds as SHU led 15-6 midway through the match.
The Lakers then picked up a forfeit and tech fall win to take a 17-15 lead after the 174 pound match.
Riley O'Mara put the Griffins back in front with a thrilling win by fall at 52 seconds of the second period of the 184 pound match. O'Mara trailed 10-4 in the match before picking up the win by fall as SHU led 21-17.
Mercyhurst closed out the match with a win by decision and a win by fall in the final match.
SHU will travel to UPJ for a quad match on Sunday. SHU will wrestle UPJ, Shippensburg and King College.
