Seton Hill returned from the Christmas and New Year's break with a non conference matchup with Pitt Greensburg on Sunday afternoon in the McKenna Center.
It was a memorable day for the Griffin program as forward
Katie Nolan became the 15th Griffin to reach 1,000 career points as the Griffins won their tenth contest of the season with a 91-45 victory over the Bobcats. SHU improves to 10-4 on the season while UPG drops to 7-2.
The Griffins took a quick 4-0 lead on back to back baskets from
Samantha Kosmacki and
Katie Nolan. UPG scored the next five points before Kosmacki drained a three to put the Griffins back in front 7-5 with 7:12 remaining in the quarter. SHU would not ever trail again in the contest. Five straight points from
Cheyenne Trest gave the Griffins a 19-9 lead with 3:20 to play in the first. SHU carried a 21-14 lead into the second quarter.
Seton Hill began to take control of the contest in the second quarter as they outscored the Bobcats 28-9 in the quarter. Kosmacki hit a jumper with 6:38 to play in the half that allowed the Griffins to double up the Bobcats, 32-16. Over a 3;30 stretch later in the quarter, the Griffins went on a 10-0 run to take a 42-19 lead with 2:53 to play in the half.
Maddy Moore then scored five straight for the Griffins as they led 49-23 at the halftime break.
Nolan opened the third quarter by scoring her 1,000th career point on a layup just 11 seconds into the second half. Kosmacki followed with a three pointer and Trest added a basket as the Griffins extended their lead to 56-23 less than two minutes into the quarter. The Griffins put the game away with a 15-0 run over a five minute span in the quarter. SHU led 77-31 after three quarters of action.
Three pointers from
Kelly Weeks and Moore along with a basket from
Courtney Tomas gave the Griffins 48 point leads, their largest of the game, in the fourth quarter.
The Griffins shot 54% (34-63) from the floor and 42% (11-26) from three point land while holding the Bobcats to just 30% from the floor and 29% from three point land. SHU held a 38-35 advantage in rebounds and forced 23 UPG turnovers.
Seven Griffins reached double figures in the win lead by Kosmacki with 16. Both
Sonia Sarda and Tomas finished the contest with 12 points. Trest, Nolan, Moore and Weeks each ended the game with 10 points. Sarda and
Madelyn Fischer each pulled down eight rebounds.
Seton Hill returns to PSAC action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Shippensburg.
