Winning Streak Reaches Five in Win Over #15 Gannon

The Griffins returned to action after a week off with a home PSAC West contest with #15 Gannon on Monday evening.

Seton Hill outscored the Knights 58-43 over the final three quarters as they ran their winning streak to five with a 66-60 over the Golden Knights.  SHU improves to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in PSAC play while Gannon falls to 10-2 overall and 5-2 in PSAC play.  

Baskets from Rena Enterline and Katie Nolan tied the game at four early on in the first quarter.  Gannon then went on a 11-2 run as they led 15-6 with 1:20 to play in the quarter.  The Knights led 17-8 after one quarter of action.  

Less than three minutes into the second quarter, the Knights led the Griffins 21-13.  Christiane Frye hit a three and Cheyenne Trest hit a fastbreak layup as SHU was able to cut the Gannon lead to 21-18 with four minutes remaining in the half.  Frye drained another three to tie the game at 25 but a late Gannon basket gave the Knights a 27-25 lead at the halftime break.  

Back to back three pointers from Enterline and Trest tied the game at 39 midway through the third quarter.  Two Frye free throws gave the Griffins their first lead of the game at 41-39.  A layup from Enterline gave SHU a 43-39 lead with 3:57 to play in the quarter.  Gannon got back to within one but Frye drained another three and Trest hit two free throws to give SHU a 48-42 lead with just under two minutes to play.  Gannon got to within one but two Frye free throws gave SHU a 50-47 lead at the end of the third quarter.  

A three point play and another basket from Trest put the Griffins in front 55-49 two minutes into the fourth quarter.  Two more Trest free throws extended the lead to 57-50 with 5:45 to play.  A three pointer from the Knights cut the Griffins lead to 61-60 with 2;14 to play but the Griffin defense wiuld keep the Knights off the scoreboard the rest of the half to secure the win.  Trest hit three of four free throws and Courtney Tomas went 2-2 from the line to close out the win.  

The Griffins held Gannon to just 39% shooting from the floor and 33% from three point land in the win.  They also forced 14 Gannon turnovers.  The Griffins were 20-23 from the free throw line in the win.

Trest led four Griffins in double figures with 20 points.  Frye finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.  Enterline added 12 points and Nolan reached double figures with 11 points.

SHU will continue PSAC West play on Wednesday evening when they travel to Clarion.
