Seton Hill continued a busy week of action as they traveled to Clarion for a PSAC West matchup on Wednesday evening.
The Griffins used a 23-10 advantage in the second quarter to take control of the contest as they won their sixth straight with a 68-59 win over the Golden Eagles. SHU is now 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the PSAC while Clarion falls to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in the PSAC.
SHU opened the game hitting three three pointers and
Katie Nolan added a basket as the Griffins took an 11-2 lead just over four minutes into the quarter. Clarion answered with an 8-0 run before a Nolan bucket ended the Golden Eagles run.
Joi Burleigh closed out the scoring for the Griffins in the quarter as they took a 15-14 lead into the second quarter.
Over the first four minutes of the second quarter, the Griffins outscored the Golden Eagles by an 11-0 margin as they built a 26-14 lead.
Christiane Frye scored four points during the run. Frye drained a three pointer and Nolan completed a three point play as SHU extended their lead to 34-20 with 2:58 to play in the half.
Samantha Kosmacki scored the final four points of the quarter for the Griffins as they took a 38-24 lead into the halftime break.
Two baskets from Nolan and one from Kosmacki allowed the Griffins to take their largest lead of the game to date at 20, 44-24 with 7:45 to play in the quarter. Clarion answered back with a 10-0 run to cut the Griffins lead back to ten. Seven points from Nolan and a basket from
Courtney Tomas pushed the Griffins lead back to 54-38 at the end of the third quarter.
A three pointer from
Kelly Weeks and another basket from Frye extended the Griffins lead to 68-46 with 3:16 to play in the game. Clarion scored the final 13 points of the contest but it was not nearly enough.
The Griffins held Clarion to just 36% from the floor and 31% from three point land in the win.
Nolan led the Griffins with a double double of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Kosmacki also reached double figures with 15 points. She added seven rebounds. Frye was the third Griffin in double figures with 12 points. She also added seven rebounds.
The Griffins are scheduled to host Mercyhurst on Monday afternoon at 1 PM in another PSAC West contest.
