Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rough Second Half Costly in Road Loss

The Griffin men continued PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon with a road matchup at Slippery Rock.

Seton Hill jumped out to an early 24-8 lead but the Rock rallied and outscored the Griffins 48-31 in the second half in route to a 70-61 victory over the Griffins.  The Rock improves to 10-3 overall and 6-1 in the PSAC while the Griffins drop to 1-13 overall and 1-8 in PSAC play.

Behind eight points from Ryan Meis, the Griffins jumped out to an early 10-2 lead over the Rock at the first media timeout.  A traditional three point play and a three point shot from Drew Green allowed the Griffins to take an 18-7 lead with 12:20 to play in the half.

Baskets from Sean Dillon, Marrek Paola and Meis gave the Griffins their largest lead of the game at 16, 24-8 with 8:30 to play in the first half.  Green's three pointer gave SHU a 27-12 lead with 6:45 to play in the half.  The Rock was able to cut the Griffin lead to eight, at 30-22, at the halftime break.

Meis pushed the Griffins lead back to ten with the opening bucket of the second half.  The Rock then went on a 12-2 run to tie the score at 34 less than four minutes into the half.  Meis then drilled another three and Dillon added a bucket as SHU retook a 39-34 lead.

The Griffins would hold that lead for over five minutes before the Rock took their first lead of the game, 46-44, with 9:01 to play in the half.  Just over three minutes later, Green put the Griffins back in front 50-48 with 6:42 to go.  The Rock responded with a 7-0 run to lake a 55-50 lead, a lead they would not relinquish.  Trailing 63-55, Meis drilled back to back three pointers to cut the lead to 63-61 with 1:33 left but the Rock answered right back with a three pointer of their own to build their back to five.  Slippery Rock hit four free throws to close out the game.

Meis scored a career high 21 points on 5-7 shooting from three point land.  Green finished with 20 points on 4-6 shooting from three point land.  Paola also reached double figures with 11 points.
