Seton Hill continued PSAC West play as they hosted Gannon on Monday evening in the McKenna Center.
Gannon outscored the Griffins 35-28 in the second half in route to a 63-53 win over the Griffins. SHU is now 1-12 on the season and 1-7 in PSAC play while Gannon improves to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the PSAC.
The contest got off to a slow start but a three pointer from
Sean Dillon and a free throw from
Miles Monchecourt gave the Griffins an 11-8 lead midway through the first half. Â
The Knights answered with eight straight points as they took a 15-11 lead with 7:46 to play in the half. Back to back layins from
Ryan Meis and
Samuel Tabe tied the score at 15 just over a minute later. Gannon then scored six points over a minute stretch to build a 21-15 lead. Baskets from
Drew Green and
Jimmy Moon got the Griffins back to within one but the Knights hit a jumper before the end of the half to take a 28-25 lead at the break. Â
Gannon scored the first four points of the second half as they built their lead to 32-25. Three straight three pointers from Dillon cut the Gannon lead to 39-38 less than seven minutes into the half. The Knights then went on a 12-0 run that gave them a 51-38 lead with 8:50 to play in the half. Â
The Griffins answered with a 9-0 run to get back to within four at 51-47 with 6:27 to play. Meis scored seven of the nine points and Tabe added the other two. Gannon built their lead back up to seven but buckets from Moon and Meis trimmed the lead to 54-51 with 2:27 to play. Two Meis free throws answered a Gannon three pointer as SHU trailed 57-53 with 43 seconds to play but Gannon got a fast break dunk and went 4-4 from the line to close out the game. Â
Dillon led the Griffins with 17 points. Meis added 12. Moon finished with 8 points.
SHU will travel to Clarion on Wednesday evening for another PSAC West contest. Â
