The Griffin volleyball team opened their 2021 season on the road at Findlay with a pair of contests on Friday. Seton Hill dropped both matches by identical 3-1 scores to both Catawba and Northwood.
In the first match against Catawba, the Griffins fell down two sets to none after dropping the first set 25-19 and the second set by a 25-11 score. SHU battled back to win the third set by a 25-23 score to cut the lead to 2-1. Catawba won the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set.
Mara Yahner led the Griffins with 14 kills.
Kierstin Schade also reached double figure kills with 10.
Carrie Leazer led SHU with 19 digs.
Shannon Watkins had 12 assists and
Abby Oesterling added 10 assists.
The match with Northwood was a very tight match with neither team winning a set by more than three points.
Northwood jumped out in front 2-0 with a 25-22 first set win and a 26-24 second set win. SHU took the third set by a 25-23 margin. The fourth set was a battle with Northwood coming out on top 32-30.
Paige Cole paced the Griffins with 16 kills in the Northwood match. Schade added 9 kills and Yahner finished with 8. Leazer had 14 digs and Watkins added 11. Watkins also added 17 assists while
Riley Rock finished with 13.
Bobbi Rempe had 4 blocks for the Griffins.
Seton Hill returns to action on Saturday morning when they meet Catawba to wrap up the tourney.
