Seton Hill went on the road Saturday and dropped a 3-0 decision at Gannon University, which puts the Griffins' record at 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC West.
An ace by
Carrie Leazer had Seton Hill within one at 6-5 in the opening set, but the Golden Knights used a 9-2 surge to take control. Although
Paige Cole had three kills in the set, Gannon took the lead with a 25-14 win in the opener.
The second set had a strong start for the Griffins, who used an ace by
Mariela Alvarado and a kill by
Kierstin Schade to spark a run of five straight points to stake SHU to a 6-3 lead. Gannon answered in a big way, rolling off 15 of the next 16 points and the home team went on to a 25-11 victory in the second set. In the third,
Bobbi Rempe turned in two kills, one ace and a pair of blocks early on, as the Griffins were within 12-11 before the Golden Knights would pull away again, scoring five in a row before going on to a 25-17 win to come away with the victory.
In the setback, Leazer set a season-high with 23 digs. Also highlighting the defensive efforts was Schade with three blocks and Rempe and
Riley Rock with two each. Leading the way in kills was
Mara Yahner with four and Rock and
Shannon Watkins both passed off six assists.
The Griffins will stay in PSAC play for their next match, as they host California (Pa.) University Tuesday night at the McKenna Center at 7 pm.
