The Griffins made the short trip to Johnstown, PA for a PSAC West matchup with the Mountain Cats on Saturday afternoon. UPJ scored three times in the first half and added two more in the second half for a 5-2 win over the Griffins. SHU is now 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the west while UPJ improves to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the west.
Pitt Johnstown jumped on the Griffins, scoring twice in the first 13 minutes of the contest as they took the early 2-0 lead. They scored just 1:33 into the contest and then eleven minutes later they increased their lead to 2-0.
Kathryn Penman cut the UPJ lead in half off an assist from
Madisyn Ramacciotti in the 33rd minute. UPJ increased their lead to 3-1 less than five minutes later as they took a 3-1 lead into the halftime break. UPJ outshot the Griffins 10-6 in the half.
UPJ scored twice in a five minute span in the second half as they built their lead to 5-1 with just over 20 minutes to play in the half.
Alianna Resch closed out the scoring for the Griffins in the 78th minute.
Mikayla Moyer assisted on the goal. SHU outshot UPJ 7-6 in the half.
Penman led the Griffins with four shots on goal.
Grace Kenyon finished with three saves.
Lindsey Pazdziorko added two saves.
SHU will travel to Clarion on Wednesday evening for another PSAC West contest.
