Seton Hill traveled to Slippery Rock on Tuesday afternoon for a pair of PSAC West make up games with a chance to clinch the PSAC Western Division title with a sweep.
The Griffins were able to clinch their first PSAC West title since 2014 with a sweep of Slippery Rock. Seton Hill took game one by an 8-5 margin and then completed the sweep with a 7-2 win in game two. SHU is now 27-4 overall and 19-4 in the West. Â
Slippery Rock opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning of game one with a leadoff homer as they took a 1-0 lead. That lead did not last very long as the Griffins answered with five runs in the top of the second inning.Â
Jack Oberdorf and
Jordan Fiedor singled to open the inning. Oberdorf scored on a
Tyler Peterson single to tie the score at one. After an out,
Owen Sabol knocked in two runs with a double and
Tommy Pellis followed with a two run shot to left center to give SHU a 5-1 lead. Â
The Rock cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom half of the inning but the Griffins responded with two runs in the top of the third inning. With one out, Oberdorf singled and Fiedor walked. Both moved up on a wild pitch. Oberdorf scored on Peterson's RBI groundout and
Canice Ejoh made it 7-4 with an RBI single. Pellis homered to center field to lead off the fourth inning for the Griffins. Â
Cade Negley earned the win in relief. He worked 2.2 innings and gave up no runs on four hits while striking out four. Sabol, Pellis, Oberdorf, Peterson and Ejoh each had two hits. Â
SHU struck six times in the top of the third inning of game two. Ejoh and Sabol were hit by pitches to lead off the inning. Pellis followed with a single to load the bases.Â
Derek Orndorff then cleared the bases with a grand slam giving the Griffins a 4-0 lead. After a flyout,
Vincenzo Rauso doubled and scored when Fiedor cleared the fence to put the Griffins in front 6-0. Â
Orndorff doubled to lead off the fifth inning and scored on a
Isaiah DiAndreth single. Â
Marshall McGraw earned the win, going six innings. He gave up two runs on six hits and struck out five. Orndorff and DiAndreth each had two hits.
SHU will close out their regular season this weekend when they meet Pitt Johnstown in a four game set. Â
