Five Bloomsburg Home Runs Costly in PSAC Title Contest

For the second time this postseason, the Griffin baseball team played in a winner take all game on their home field as they hosted Bloomsburg in game three of the PSAC Finals on Saturday afternoon in Greensburg.  

Bloomsburg used five home runs to power past the Griffins and win their second consecutive PSAC Championship with a 6-2 win on the Griffins home turf.  Seton Hill falls to 35-6 overall while the Huskies improve to 23-16.  Bloomsburg will now earn the PSAC's automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament.  

Starters Jon McCullough and Jared Marshman both put up 0's on the board over the first three innings of the contest.  McCullough gave up just one hit and struck out three while Marshman allowed two hits and struck out three as well.  

The Huskies finally got to McCullough in the fourth inning with a one out homer to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.  

The Griffins bounced right back by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Derek Orndorff reached on an infield single and with one out Jordan Fiedor was hit by a pitch.  Vincenzo Rauso then lined a double into the left center field gap which got to the wall, allowing both Orndorff and Fiedor to score and gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead.  

That lead did not last very long though.  After a strikeout to start the fifth inning, the Huskies used an infield single and then a homer to center field to retake the lead 3-2.  Orndorff nearly made another home run saving catch but the fall came out of his glove as he hit the wall.  The Huskies followed that with a bomb to left field that extended their lead to 4-2.  

Seton Hill threatened in the fifth as Owen Sabol singled with one out, moved to second on a balk and then third on a flyout.  Orndorff walked to put runners at first and third but a groundout to short ended the inning.  

Bloomsburg added an insurance run with a leadoff homer in the sixth inning.  They added their final run in the eighth on another solo homer.  

That was all starter Marshman would need as he retired the final 13 hitters he faced to secure the fifth title for the Huskies.

Seton Hill will now await their fate for the NCAA Tournament as the NCAA will announce the five team field for the Atlantic Regional during the 2021 NCAA Division II Baseball Selection Show on Sunday evening at 10 PM.
