Seton Hill hosted the PSAC Finals for the first time in school history on Friday afternoon as the Griffins and Bloomsburg met for the first two games of the best of three finals.
The Griffins won game one by the score of 7-5 but the Huskies responded with a 9-2 win in game two to force a winner take all game three on Saturday afternoon. SHU is now 35-5 overall while the Huskies are now 22-16.
Pitchers
Jared Kollar and JJ Spehrley both put zeros on the scoreboard over the first three innings. Neither pitcher gave up a hit over the first three innings with Kollar striking out six and Spehrley striking out six as well. Kollar continued to cruise in the fourth, striking out two more.
The Griffins finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out,
Jordan Fiedor and
Derek Orndorff walked.
Vincenzo Rauso reached on a fielders choice with Orndorff beating the play at second to load the bases. After a pop out,
Tyler Peterson connected on a 3-2 pitch and drove it over the center field wall to give the Griffins a 4-0 lead.
Bloomsburg scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth inning to trim the Griffins lead to 4-1. The Huskies then scored four times on four hits to take a 5-4 lead over the Griffins in the top of the sixth inning.
In the sixth, Orndorff and Rauso walked to lead off the inning. With one out, Peterson delivered his second RBI hit of the game, this one a single to tie the game at five. Later in the inning, Rauso scored on a wild pitch to put the Griffins in front 6-5. Fiedor walked and scored on an error in the seventh as the Griffins increased their lead to 7-5.
Caiden Wood worked around a one out double and got a strikeout and pop out to end the eighth and
Nash Bryan worked a perfect ninth to earn his fifth save.
Peterson had the lone two hits in the win.
The Griffins again took a lead in game two. Orndorff singled and stole second base to start the inning. Orndorff scored on a Rauso double which gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead. Peterson followed with another RBI hit as the Griffins increased their lead to 2-0.
It did not take the Huskies long to respond as they scored six times, all after two outs, with a grand slam and two run homer as they took a 6-2 lead.
They added three more runs in the fifth to increase their lead to 9-2.
Peterson had two hits in game two.
The Griffins and Huskies will now meet tomorrow at noon in game three with the winner taking home the PSAC Championship.
