Seton Hill hosted Gannon in a winner take all game three of the PSAC Semifinals on Tuesday afternoon in Greensburg. With a win, the Griffins would clinch their first ever appearance in a PSAC final.
The Griffins scored four times in the fifth inning and were able to keep the Knights off the scoreboard in all but one inning as they were able to advance to their first ever PSAC Final with a 4-1 win over the Knights. SHU improves to 32-12 overall and the Knights fall to 28-15 on the season.
The Knights used a bases loaded groundout with no one out to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the top of the second inning. Starter
Logan Hartman was then able to get out of the jam by getting a strikeout and pop up to end the inning.
Starting in the second inning, Hartman retired nine straight hitters before giving up a single with one out in the fifth. The Knights had two on with two outs in the fifth but Hartman got a line out to
Samantha Estupinian to end the inning.
Seton Hill broke through in the fifth inning. Pinch hitter
Nichole McClendon singled to lead off the inning.
Madison Hans pinch ran for McClendon and moved up on a wild pitch. Hans scored when
Allison Kapoll doubled to the left center field gap to tie the score at one. After a groundout,
Lauren Dellett walked to put runners on first and third.
Morgan Toal then reached on an error which allowed Kapoll to score and give the Griffins the lead.
Alexis Vargas walked to load the bases. Estupinian then came up with a huge two out, two RBI single to extend the Griffins lead to 4-1.
Hartman worked around a leadoff walk in the sixth by getting two groundouts and a pop out to end the inning. The Knights then got a leadoff double to open the seventh but Hartman got a pop out and strikeout for the first two outs of the inning. She then got a pop out to
Christiana Skrabak for the final out of the game, sending the Griffins to the PSAC Finals.
Hartman improved to 13-1 on the season with the complete game, four hitter. She gave up just the one run and struck out two. in the final two games against Gannon, Hartman threw two complete games and allowed just two runs on nine hits while striking out six to earn two victories.
Kapoll and Estupinian each had two hits in the win.
The Griffins will now host the best of three PSAC Finals against #3 seed from the East, West Chester. The first two games will be played on Friday with first pitch set for 1 PM. The third game would be played on Saturday afternoon if needed.
