Seton Hill continued their busy week of baseball with a PSAC West doubleheader in Washington, PA against California (PA).
The Vulcans played long ball in the doubleheader sweep of the Griffins as they homered six times in the pair of games. CalU took game one by a 4-1 score and then completed the sweep of the Griffins with a 9-3 win in game two. SHU falls to 23-4 overall and 15-4 in PSAC West play while the Vulcans improve to 23-12 overall and 13-9 in the west. Â
Game one was scoreless over the first three innings of play until CalU struck first with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. They added to their lead in the fifth inning with an unearned run as they took a 2-0 lead. The Vulcans then hit two more solo homers in the sixth inning as they took a 4-0 lead over the Griffins.
Seton Hill tried to rally in the top half of the seventh inning. With an out,
Owen Sabol and
Vincenzo Rauso singled to put runners on first and second.Â
Tyler Peterson reached on a fielders choice that put runners on first and third with two outs.Â
Jack Oberdorf then reached on an infield single to drive in a run and cut the lead to 4-1. A strikeout looking ended the contest.
Sabol and
Derek Orndorff each had two hits for the Griffins. Â
The Griffins took an early lead in game two by scoring twice in the second inning.Â
Isaiah DiAndreth singled to lead off the inning.Â
Owen Sabol then followed with a two run shot to left field that gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead. Â
California used back to back homers, the first one a three run homer to take a 4-2 lead over the Griffins in the bottom of the third inning. The Vulcans hit a solo homer with one out in the fourth to extend their lead to 5-2. CalU added four more runs in the sixth inning as they extended their lead to 9-2. Â
The Griffins closed out the scoring in the seventh inning. Rauso doubled to lead off the inning. After an out,
Jordan Fiedor singled to put runners on first and third. Rauso scored on an RBI ground out by
Tommy Pellis as the Griffins cut the lead to 9-3. Â
Rauso had two hits to lead the Griffins.
The same two teams will meet tomorrow afternoon in Greensburg to close out the four game set.
