Softball Clinches Spot in PSAC Tourney With Sweep

The Griffin softball team hosted Clarion in a PSAC West doubleheader that was a make up from an earlier postponed contest.  

Seton Hill had two pitchers combine for a shutout in a 4-0 game one win.  The Griffins then used two big innings in game two for a 7-3 win to complete the sweep of the doubleheader.  SHU is now 24-8 overall and 21-5 in the west.  With the wins, the Griffins clinch a spot in next week's PSAC Tournament.  

SHU took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one.  With one out, Jenna Osikowicz singled and moved to second when Lauren Dellett reached on an error.  Two hitters later, Alexis Vargas drove in two runs with a double as the Griffins led 2-0.  

The Griffins added another run in the second.  Allison Kapoll was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Samantha EstupinianMackenzie Zang was hit by a pitch and both runners moved up on a wild pitch.  One hitter later, Osikowicz reached on an infield single that scored Kapoll and gave SHU a 3-0 lead.  

In the fifth, Osikowicz tripled to lead off the inning.  She scored on a sacrifice fly by Nina Grandey.  

Lauren Bertig and Shaelynn Myers combined on a four hit shutout.  Myers earned the win with four innings of relief.  Bertig struck out three and Myers struck out two.  Osikowicz led the offense with three hits. 

Clarion took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game two.  

The Griffins struck for four runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Christiana Skrabak homered to lead off the inning and tie the score at one.  SHU then added three more runs thanks to three Golden Eagle errors as they took a 4-1 lead.  

The Golden Eagles scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to cut the Griffins lead to 4-3.  

Seton Hill answered right back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.  After an out, Vargas homered to give SHU a 5-3 lead.  Skrabak and Kapoll both singled and then scored on Estupinian's two run double. 

Logan Hartman earned her ninth win of the season.  She worked 4 1/3 innings to earn the win.  Nichole McClendon, Skrabak and Kapoll each had two hits in the win.

SHU will return to PSAC West action on Friday afternoon when they host California (PA) in an important contest for seeding in the west.
