Griffins Sweep Doubleheader From the Rock

Seton Hill hosted Slippery Rock on Tuesday afternoon in a PSAC West contest that was a make-up game for an earlier missed series.

The Griffins three pitchers combined for a one hitter and the bats converted early and often in a 11-0 game one victory.  Seton Hill completed the sweep using a five running inning in a 6-1 game two win.  Seton Hill improves to 21-2 overall and 13-2 in PSAC West play.  The Rock falls to 16-9 overall and 7-7 in the west.

SHU struck for four runs in the bottom of the first inning in game one as six straight Griffins reached base after one out.  Tommy Pellis doubled and Derek Orndorff walked before Isaiah DiAndreth singled to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  Jack Oberdorf followed with an RBI single and Brandon Kline was hit by a pitch to to load the bases.  Jamie Wrabel drew a bases loaded walk to drive in a run and Tyler Peterson added a sacrifice fly to put SHU in front 4-0.

The Griffins added two more runs in the second inning.  Again, Pellis doubled and Orndorff walked after one out.  DiAndreth added an RBI single and Kline made it 6-0 with a sacrifice fly.

The team again scored four runs in the third inning.  Peterson led off the inning with a homer over the left field wall.  Owen Sabol doubled, stole third and scored on a Canice Ejoh ground out.  Pellis followed with a solo shot to left.  Orndorff then doubled, stole third and scored on a DiAndreth sacrifice fly to give SHU a 10-0 lead.

Elijah Snider added an RBI ground out in the fifth inning for the final Griffin run.

Three Griffin hurlers combined on a one hitter.  Jared Kollar worked four innings, giving up one hit and striking out eight to earn the win.  Ashton Wentzler struck out four in two no hit innings and Omar Ward worked a perfect seventh inning with a strikeout.

Pellis finished 3-3 with two doubles and a homer.  Orndorff and DiAndreth each added two hits.

The Rock took an early 1-0 lead in game two with a two out RBI single in the top of the second inning.

It did not take the Griffins long to respond as Sabol hit a solo homer with two outs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score at one.

The Griffins were able to break the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Orndorff singled and DiAndreth and Oberdorf walked to load the bases, forcing a Rock pitching change.  Jordan Fiedor greeted the new pitcher by hammering a 1-0 fastball over the center field wall for a grand slam, giving SHU a 5-1 lead.  Vincenzo Rauso added an RBI single in the inning.

Payton Reesman earned the win in relief with three scoreless innings.  He struck out four in three innings.  Five different Griffins had a hit in the win.

The Griffins will travel to Clarion for another PSAC West doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
