Seton Hill made the trip to Clarion on Tuesday afternoon for a PSAC West contest that was a makeup game from an earlier postponed contest.
The Griffins scored once in the eighth inning for a 2-1 win in game one before giving up single runs in the fifth and sixth inning of game two in a 4-2 loss to split the doubleheader. SHU is now 18-8 overall and 15-5 in the west while Clarion is now 11-17 overall and 7-15 in the west. Â
SHU put runners on first and third with no one out in the top of the first inning but two pop ups and a strikeout ended the inning without the Griffins scoring. Â
Seton Hill got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning.Â
Mackenzie Zang drew a leadoff walk. Two straight fielders choices put
Jenna Osikowicz at first with two outs. Osikowicz stole second and then scored on a single from
Alexis Vargas to give SHU a 1-0 lead. Â
The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Golden Eagles scored an unearned run to tie the score at one.
It did not take the Griffins long to retake the lead. Osikowicz singled to lead off the eighth. She stole second, then stole third and scored on a throwing error to give SHU a 2-1 lead.
Logan Hartman earned her eighth win of the season to improve to 8-0. She worked all eight innings, giving up no earned runs on four hits while striking out two. Osikowicz and
Christiana Skrabak each had two hits in the win.
The Griffins again scored first in game two.Â
Morgan Toal drew a leadoff in the second inning.Â
Lauren Dellett followed with a single to put runners on first and second with no outs. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt from Skrabak. Toal scored on a RBI ground out from
Shayleigh Gulvas to give SHU a 1-0 lead. Â
Clarion scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. SHU tied the game at two on a sacrifice fly from Osikowicz in the third. The Golden Eagles scored single runs in the fifth and sixth inning for the 4-2 win.
Dellett finished with two hits for the Griffins in game two.
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Friday afternoon when they host Mercyhurst at 2:30 PM.
