Baseball Sweeps Clarion in PSAC West Action

Seton Hill hosted Clarion in a PSAC West doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.  The pair of games was a makeup of an earlier postponed doubleheader.

The Griffins gave up the first run in each contest but scored seven unanswered in game one and fifteen unanswered for a sweep of the Golden Eagles.  SHU took game one by a 7-1 score and then won game two by a 15-1 score.  SHU is now 17-1 overall and 9-1 in PSAC West action.

Clarion scored a run in the top of the first inning of game one to take an early 1-0 lead.  The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning.  Derek Orndorff singled and stole second to start the inning.  He scored on an RBI single from Owen SabolIsaiah DiAndreth then homered over the left center field wall to give SHU a 3-1 advantage.  Brandon Kline later tripled to drive in Vincenzo Rauso who singled.

Seton Hill scored their final three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Sabol had an RBI single and Rauso added a two RBI single to put SHU in front 7-1.

Marshall McGraw earned his first win of the season.  He worked five innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out eight.  Rauso led the offense with three hits.  Sabol added two.

Clarion again took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two.

It did not take the Griffins long to retake the lead in game two.  Jordan Fiedor walked to lead off the inning.  Tommy Pellis followed with a single thru the left side and Orndorff reached on a bunt single to load the bases.  Jack Oberdorf singled to right field to tie the game at one.  DiAndreth then hit a sacrifice fly to give SHU a 2-1 lead.

The Griffins broke the game open with a five spot in the bottom of the third inning.  Orndorff singled in a run and DiAndreth added two RBIs with a single in the inning.  Rauso picked up the last RBI of the inning when he reached on a fielders choice and SHU led 7-1.

Pellis doubled with one out in the fourth inning and scored when Orndorff homered over the left center field wall.  SHU then scored six times in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Canice Ejoh, Orndorff and DiAndreth each drove in two runs in the inning.

Orndorff went 4-4 with a homer and five RBIs in the win.  DiAndreth finished 3-3 with 5 RBIs.  Pellis and Oberdorf each added two hits.

Seton Hill returns to action this weekend with a four game set with Mercyhurst.  SHU travels to Erie on Friday then hosts the Lakers on Saturday.
