After being off for nearly three weeks, the Griffin baseball team returned to the field with a home doubleheader with Gannon on Friday afternoon.
The Griffins returned to the form they were playing before the layoff as they outscored Gannon by a 19-6 margin in sweeping the doubleheader. SHU took game one by a 12-4 score and completed the sweep with a 7-2 win in game two. The #7 Griffins are now 14-0 overall and 6-0 in PSAC West play while Gannon drops to 9-11 overall and 7-7 in the West.
Seton Hill jumped all over Gannon in the first inning of game one by scoring eight runs to take an 8-0 lead. The huge hit in the inning was a grand slam from
Vincenzo Rauso.
Owen Sabol doubled to lead off the inning and
Tommy Pellis drew a walk.
Jack Oberdorf followed with an RBI single to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. A few batters later both
Isaiah DiAndreth and
Carl Turner drew bases loaded walks to give SHU a 4-0 advantage. After a fly out, Rauso cleared the bases as he cleared the left center field wall and SHU led 8-0 after an inning.
The Griffins increased their lead to 9-0 in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from DiAndreth. Gannon got two runs back in the top of the third inning. DiAndreth added another sacrifice fly in the fourth to push the lead to 10-2. Sabol added an RBI groundout in the fifth and
Jack Oberdorf homered to lead off the sixth to wrap up the SHU scoring.
Sabol, Oberdorf and Rauso each had two hits in game one.
Ben Vicini picked up his third win of the season. He went 6 innings and gave up 4 runs while striking out 8.
SHU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when they scored an unearned run. The Knights tied the score at one in the top of the third inning. The Griffins scored five times in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-1 lead.
Tyler Peterson had a two RBI single and DiAndreth added an RBI single. Rauso picked up an RBI when he reached on a fielders choice. Oberdorf added an RBI in the sixth for the final Griffin run.
Kevin Vaupel earned his second win of the season. He worked four innings while giving up a run on three hits and striking out four.
Cade Negley earned the save by throwing three innings.
Canice Ejoh had two hits for the Griffins in game two.
SHU will conclude the four game set with Gannon on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader in Erie.
