Seton Hill closed out their four game set with IUP with a doubleheader in Indiana, PA on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins were able to sweep the doubleheader from the Crimson Hawks as the Griffins won game one by a 7-1 score and completed the sweep with a 14-0 win in game two. The two wins are the 12th in a row to start the season for the Griffins. SHU also completed the four game sweep of IUP in the four game set that opened PSAC West play.
Game one was scoreless for the first three innings. The Griffins got on the scoreboard first in the top of the fourth inning.
Tommy Pellis led off the inning with a single. He was erased when
Derek Orndorff reached on a fielders choice. Orndorff later scored on a wild pitch to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
Seton Hill scored five times on just two hits in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.
Tanner Froehlich led off the inning with a single. After an out,
Owen Sabol walked and
Brandon Kline reached on a fielders choice scoring Froehlich.
Jordan Fiedor drew a walk to load the bases and Pellis then drew a bases loaded walk to drive in a run. After a foul out,
Jack Oberdorf singled to left field and after an error all three runners scored to give SHU a 6-0 lead.
Froehlich homered to left center field to lead off the sixth inning as SHU took a 7-0 lead.
Kevin Vaupel earned the win by going six innings. He gave up one run on seven hits while striking out six.
Cade Negley threw a perfect seventh inning. Froehlich had two of the Griffins five hits in the win.
It did not take the Griffins long to score in game two as they scored in the top of the first inning. After an out, Pellis doubled, stole third and then scored on a Orndorff sacrifice fly.
SHU scored six times in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead over the Crimson Hawks. Fiedor drew a bases loaded walk, Pellis drove in two runs with a single and Orndorff hit a three run homer to extend the SHU lead to seven.
Froehlich hit his second homer of the day in the fourth inning. He drove in Pellis who singled to lead off the inning and Orndorff who walked. Back to back doubles from
Isaiah DiAndreth and
Carl Turner pushed the Griffins lead to 11-0.
Jamie Wrabel added a two RBI single in the sixth and
Canice Ejoh followed with a RBI single to close out the scoring.
Jon McCullough earned the win. He worked four scoreless innings while giving up one hit and striking out four.
Brandon Bergert,
Peyton Reesman and
Caiden Wood combined for the shutout. Pellis led the offense going 3-3. Orndorff drove in four, Froehlich drove in three and Pellis and Wrabel each knocked in two.
SHU will take a break from PSAC play when they host Salem on Tuesday afternoon.
