Seton Hill made the long trip up I-79 to Erie for a big PSAC West matchup between two unbeaten teams in the Griffins and #22 Mercyhurst on Tuesday afternoon.
The Griffins scored three times in the first 1:19 of the contest and never trailed the rest of the way as they remained unbeaten with a 15-12 win over the Lakers. SHU is now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in PSAC West play while the Lakers fall to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in PSAC West action.
SHU came out of the gates flying as they scored three goals in the first minute and nineteen seconds of the contest to take an early 3-0 lead.
Jaclyn Frank,
Alaina TeSelle and
Kristi Kada each scored goals in the quick 3-0 run. The Lakers responded with two goals to trim the lead to 3-2 midway through the first half.
The same three Griffins who scored the first three goals scored the next three goals as SHU built a 6-2 lead with 6:07 to play in the first half. The Lakers then rolled off three straight to trim the lead to one before
Taylor Fox-Trudel scored with seven seconds to play in the half to give SHU a 7-5 lead at the half.
The Griffins held a 22-16 advantage in shots in the first half and won 12 of the 13 draw controls in the half.
Mercyhurst opened the scoring just thirty six seconds into the second half to cut the Griffins lead to one. The Kada sisters, Kristi and Kate, scored twenty six seconds apart to build the Griffins advantage back to three at 9-6.
Another goal from
Kristi Kada and one from Fox-Trudel and TeSelle extended the Griffin lead to 12-8 midway thru the second half. TeSelle's fourth of the game gave SHU a 13-9 lead with 13:02 to play. After a Laker goal, Fox-Trudel scored twice as SHU built their lead to 15-10 with just under eight minutes to play.
SHU held a 40-26 advantage in shots and a 22-7 advantage in draw controls.
Fox-Trudel led the Griffins with an eight point effort on four goals and four assists.
Kristi Kada added six points on four goals and two assists. TeSelle also scored four goals. Frank finished with two goals and an assist while
Kate Kada added a goal and an assist.
Kamille Ward earned the win in cage and made five saves.
SHU will return to action next Wednesday when they host Lock Haven in a PSAC West contest.
