Seton Hill closed out their four game set with Pitt Johnstown with a home doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
The Griffins brought out the lumber in game one as they hit three homers in route to a 10-1, five inning win. SHU completed the sweep with a 3-2 walk off win in game two. SHU is now 11-3 overall and 8-0 in PSAC West play.
After a scoreless first inning, the Griffins struck for five runs, all with two outs, in the second inning.
Allison Kapoll singled with two outs and scored on
Madison Hans RBI double.
Alexis Vargas followed with a two run shot to left center field to give the Griffins a 3-0 lead.
Jenna Osikowicz tripled and
Lauren Dellett walked to put runners at the corners.
Morgan Toal doubled to the gap to put the Griffins in front 5-0.
Seton Hill doubled their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Vargas hit her second homer of the game to lead off the inning. Osikowicz singled and Dellett walked to put two runners on. After an out,
Nichole McClendon reached on an infield single to load the bases.
Christiana Skrabak cleared the bases with a grand slam over the center field fence which put the Griffins in front 10-0.
Dellett earned her sixth win of the season. She went four innings and gave up 1 run (0 earned) on 1 hit and struck out six. Osikowicz went 3-3 in the contest. Vargas and McClendon each added two hits.
Game two was a pitchers dual between the Griffins
Lauren Bertig and UPJ's Alyssa Hileman as both pitchers kept their opponents off the board over the first four innings.
The Griffins got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth. After one out, Kapoll got two second on a two base error. She scored on a
Samantha Estupinian single to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. Pinch runner
Natalia Greco scored on a sacrifice fly from Vargas to put SHU in front 2-0.
UPJ got a clutch two out hit in the top of the seventh to tie the game at two.
Kapoll led off the bottom half of the inning with a double down the left field line. Estupinian reached on a bunt base hit to move Kapoll to third. Kapoll then just beat the throw to the plate on a groundout to second from
Logan Hartman as the Griffins walked off the Mountain Cats.
Hartman earned the win in relief. Starter Bertig earned the no decision after working six innings while giving up two runs on six hits. Estupinian had two hits to lead the Griffins.
SHU will continue PSAC West play when they host Edinboro on Tuesday afternoon.
