Seton Hill continued PSAC West play as they hosted Edinboro in a PSAC West doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
Edinboro scored two unearned runs in the second inning of game one and defeated the Griffins by a 3-1 score. SHU responded with a 4-1 win in game two behind three home runs and the pitching of
Logan Hartman. The Griffins are now 12-4 overall and 9-1 in PSAC play.
The Fighting Scots took advantage of two Griffin errors to score two unearned runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins. Seton Hill got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning. After one out,
Nichole McClendon reached on a bunt base hit.
Christiana Skrabak reached on a error and both runners moved up on a fly out from
Allison Kapoll. McClendon then scored on a wild pitch to cut the Scots lead to 2-1.
Edinboro added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 3-1.
Five different Griffins each had one hit in the loss.
Morgan Toal finished with a double.
Lauren Dellett suffered the loss. She went the distance and only allowed one earned run while striking out nine.
The Scots again took an early lead on the Griffins in game two as they scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning.
The Griffins responded right back in the bottom of the first inning. McClendon singled to lead off the inning and stole second. She scored when
Alexis Vargas homered over the left field wall to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead. Toal followed with a homer down the left field line that gave the Griffins a 3-1 lead.
Jenna Osikowicz lined a ball into the left center field gap that the left fielder dove for and Osikowicz flew around the bases for an inside the park homer to extend the Griffins lead to 4-1.
Griffin starter Hartman was cruising throughout the game as she retired 18 straight hitters from the final out of the first inning to second out of the last inning. Only three of those outs left the infield.
Hartman improved to 5-0 in the circle with the complete game two hitter. She gave up one unearned run and struck out three while walking just one.
Osikowicz led the offense with two hits including the inside the park homer. Vargas and Toal also added homers.
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Friday afternoon when they travel to IUP for a doubleheader.
