The Griffins closed out their weekend series with Ashland with a single nine inning contest in Greensburg on Sunday afternoon.
Seton Hill scored eight runs in the first three innings as they rolled to a 12-3 victory over the Eagles. It is the eighth straight win for the Griffins to open the 2021 season. Â
SHU got on the board right off the bat and led 1-0 just two batters in.Â
Jordan Fiedor was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and scored when
Tommy Pellis doubled.Â
Derek Orndorff followed with a single and both runners scored on an
Isaiah DiAndreth single to give SHU the early 3-0 lead. Â
The Griffins added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Pellis knocked in one run with a groundout and Orndorff made it 6-0 with a two run homer, his fourth of the season. SHU made it 8-0 in the third.Â
Owen Sabol singled and
Vincenzo Rauso doubled to put runners on second and third. Sabol scored on a wild pitch and Rauso scored on a
Tyler Peterson sacrifice fly. Â
Peterson picked up his second RBI of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ashland cut the lead to 9-3 with three runs in the top of the sixth. SHU got that run right back in the bottom half of the inning when Orndorff scored on an errant throw. Orndorff added another RBI with a double in the eighth as the Griffins extended their lead to 12-3. Â
Cade Negley earned the win with a perfect eighth inning. Orndorff led the offense with three hits including a double and a homer and three RBI. DiAndreth and Peterson each added two hits. Pellis, DiAndreth and Peterson each added two RBIs.Â
SHU will open up PSAC West play next Friday when they host Indiana (PA) in a doubleheader. Â
