Griffins Sweep PSAC West DH at UPJ

The Griffins returned to PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader at Pitt Johnstown.  

Seton Hill scored four times in the sixth inning of game one for a 5-1 victory and SHU scored single runs in four innings for a 4-2 win in game two to complete the sweep of the Mountain Cats.  SHU is now 9-3 overall and 6-0 in PSAC West play.  

SHU scored first in game one in the top of the second inning.  After one out, Christiana Skrabak singled.  She scored when Allison Kapoll tripled to right center field to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  

The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when UPJ tied the score at one.  After one out, Skrabak was hit by a pitch.  Nina Grandey singled to put runners on first and second.  Kapoll followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.  After a groundout, Alexis Vargas hit a three run shot to right center to give SHU a 5-1 lead.  

Lauren Dellett earned her fifth win of the season with a complete game four hitter.  She struck out eight in the win.  Kapoll, Grandey and Nichole McClendon each had two hits in game one.  

The Griffins jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in game two.  With two outs, Lauren Dellett homered to left field to put SHU in front 1-0.  They made it 2-0 in the second inning when Nichole McClendon led off the inning with a single and Skrabak tripled to make it 2-0.  

UPJ cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second inning.  With two outs in the fourth, Skrabak homered to increase the SHU lead to 3-1.  The Griffins made it 4-1 in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from Vargas.  The Mountain Cats cut the lead to 4-2 in the sixth.  

Logan Hartman earned the win in the circle.  She worked 4 2/3 innings, giving up two run and striking out four.  Skrabak led SHU with two hits.  

SHU and UPJ will conclude their four game set on Sunday afternoon with a 1 PM doubleheader.
