Baseball Extends Winning Streak to Seven with 8-7 Win at Ashland

Seton Hill continued its non conference schedule with a road contest at Ashland on Saturday afternoon.

The Griffins scored three times in the top of the eighth inning and Brandon Kline threw out the tying run at the plate to end the contest as SHU won its seventh straight contest to open the season with an 8-7 win.

Seton Hill took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Owen Sabol homered with one out.  Ashland tied the score at one with a run in the bottom of the third inning.  SHU retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning.  Jack Oberdorf led off the inning by drawing a walk.  Sabol singled to put runners on first and second.  After a ground out, Vincenzo Rauso reached on an error to load the bases.  Jamie Wrabel then doubled to knock in two with Rauso scoring on a throw as SHU took a 4-1 lead.

The Eagles scored three times in the bottom of the inning to tie the contest at four. Jordan Fiedor and Tommy Pellis singled to lead off the fifth inning.  Fiedor scored to give SHU a 5-4 lead on an Eagles error.

Ashland took a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when they scored three runs on three hits.

SHU responded with three runs in the top of the eighth inning.  After an out, Tanner Froehlich reached on an error.  Wrabel and Kline singled to load the bases with two outs.  Fiedor then reached on an error to score a run.  Pellis followed with a two RBI single to put the Griffins in front 8-7.

Ashland threatened in the ninth but the Griffin defense ended the game.  With runners at first and third and one out, Kline caught a fly in right field and fired a one hopper to the plate to nail the runner and end the game at the plate.

Caiden Wood earned the win in relief.  He worked 1 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball.  Nash Bryan earned the save with two innings of work.  Pellis led the offense with 3 hits.  Sabol, Wrabel and Kline each added two hits.

SHU and Ashland will meet again on Sunday afternoon in a single nine inning contest in Greensburg.
