Seton Hill began PSAC West play the same place where they played their final PSAC West contest of 2020 as they traveled to IUP for the PSAC West Opener for the Griffins.
Kristi Kada scored with 4:15 to play in regulation to give the Griffins a 12-11 victory over the Crimson Hawks. SHU improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in PSAC West play while IUP falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in PSAC West play.
Just over two minutes into the contest,
Kristi Kada put the Griffins in front with the first goal of the contest. A little under three minutes later,
Alyssa Ference scored to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead. IUP scored the next two goals to tie the score at two just over ten minutes into the contest. Â
Three straight goals from the Griffins in 2:34 pushed the Griffin advantage to 5-2.Â
Jaclyn Frank scored the first two goals of the run and Ference netted her second to give the Griffins a three goal advantage. The teams then exchanged goals the rest of the half with Frank scoring her third and
Alaina TeSelle scoring her first as SHU entered the halftime break with a 7-5 lead. Â
SHU held a 19-11 advantage in shots in the first half but the Crimson Hawks held a 9-4 advantage in draw controls. Â
Elizabeth Tamasitis opened the scoring just 1:05 into the second half as SHU built their lead to 8-5. The teams traded goals just fourteen seconds apart with
Kate Kada scoring for the Griffins as they led 9-6 with 25:49 remaining. Â
IUP answered with two straight to cut the SHU lead to 9-8 but goals from Tamasitis and
Kristi Kada twenty seconds apart put SHU in front 11-8 with 16:28 to play. Â
The Crimson Hawks responded with three straight goals to tie the contest at 11 with 5:13 to play. Kada scored her third of the contest with 4:15 left to put the Griffins back in front. SHU forced a turnover on the next IUP possession and
Kamille Ward made a save with 2:05 to play to help the Griffins keep the one goal advantage. After a shot clock violation on the Grififns with 11 seconds to play, a long toss from IUP was intercepted by
Kate Kada to end the contest.
Kristi Kada led SHU with 3 goals and an assist. Frank also scored three times. Ference and Tamasitis each found the back of the net twice. Ward finished with 10 saves to earn her second win of the season.Â
SHU will next play their home opener on Saturday afternoon when they host Slippery Rock at 12 PM. Â
