Griffins Score Early And Often in Win over #10 Millersville

The Griffin baseball team concluded their three game weekend home series with a matchup with #10 Millersville on Sunday afternoon.

Seton Hill scored early and often as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back in route a 13-6 win over the Marauders.  SHU scored in five of their eight at bats, including five of the first six innings in the win.  With the win, the Griffins improve to 6-0 on the season.  It's the best start for a Griffin team since the 2012 team started the season with a 7-0 record.

After a 1-2-3 first inning for Ben Vicini, Griffin leadoff hitter Jordan Fiedor started the game off in style when he drilled a 1-0 pitch over the center field wall to give SHU a 1-0 lead.  Tommy Pellis followed with a single and Jack Oberdorf reached on an error to put runners on first and third.  Derek Orndorff reached on a bunt when Pellis beat the throw at the plate to put SHU in front 2-0.  Oberdorf scored the third run of the inning when Tyler Peterson reached on an error.  The fourth run crossed the plate on an Owen Sabol RBI ground out.

Millersville got one run back in the top of the second inning but the Griffins responded with two of their own in their half of the inning.  Pellis drew a one out walk and moved to third on two wild pitches.  He scored on Oberdorf's sacrifice fly.  Orndorff followed with a bomb to left field that extended the Griffin lead to 6-1.  The Griffins picked up two more runs in the top of the fourth inning on back to back RBI singles from Orndorff and Peterson which put the Griffins in front 8-2.

SHU added four more in the fifth inning to increase their lead to ten runs.  With one out, Brandon Kline singled and Fiedor was hit by a pitch.  After a lineout, Oberdorf hit a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall to increase the Griffins lead to 11-2.  Sabol later added an RBI single in the inning to extend the lead to 12-2.

Millersville scored twice in the top of the sixth but Pellis' solo homer in the bottom of the inning kept the Griffin advantage at nine, 13-4.

Caiden Wood threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win.  Orndorff went 3-4 in the game with four runs scored and three RBI.  Sabol also added three hits and two RBI.  Pellis added two hits.  Oberdorf finished with four RBIs.

The Griffins will return to action next weekend when they travel to Ashland on Saturday and host the Eagles on Sunday.
